The Illini football staff has made great progress recruiting Texas and Florida. Both known for having two of the most talented high school football states in the country. In Texas, the Illini have tapped into powerhouse Dallas (Bishop Dunne) for some of Lovie Smith’s highest rated recruits. Illinois hosted 2019 5’10 165 pound CB Logan Wilson of Bishop Dunne on Saturday. I caught up with him after the game to check on his recruitment and thoughts on the Illinois program.
Even after an uninspiring performance from the young Illini team yesterday, recruits still see the future. I wanted to know what he thought of yesterday’s game and how that looked in front of a lot of top recruits for 2018 and 2019.
” This team is very young, they have time to develop. They will become a powerhouse with this staff.”
He told me that he spent a lot of time around 2019 QB Isaiah Williams who was on campus as well. This is a firm belief amongst these recruits who were at the game. Illinois will develop and blossom into a very good team with Lovie Smith. I asked Logan about his trip and thoughts on campus.
“I loved campus, it’s beautiful and all the people treated me wonderful. It definitely felt like home, Champaign is a place I can see myself. I would definitely say it was a great visit.”
Things are picking up in his recruitment overall. He has an offer from a upstart UTSA program and told me he has interest from Houston, Baylor, Tulsa, Kansas State and Michigan State. He is expecting and offer from Illinois very soon.
“Coach Stoker told me they love me. They love my athleticism and how I read plays. My football IQ helps a lot. I also run a 4.49, which is what they want at the corner spot. I am the number one guy on the 2019 board left. They will be out to check on me again this year.”

The Illini have 2018 commitments from three star OL kievan Myers and Four star Top 200 Calvin Avery. The staff has already put themselves in the top six with four star 2019 wideout Marquez Beason as well. The staff noticed Logan recruiting all of his teammates. Illinois has really made a strong impression on this talented group.
With a continued strong junior season, Logan will get the offer he has been coveting for a while. I have talked with him several times, the kid wants to be an Illini. That’s the kind of kid this staff wants and needs more of. He has very good speed and makes plays on the ball. This staff is very good at evaluating talent, he will have truly earned the offer when it comes. Keep an “I” on Logan Wilson Illini fans.
