The Illini played host to many football recruits this weekend and one was 2019 3-Star WR Maurice Massey. Once an Iowa State commit, he is looking for a new home for his services. Recruiting analysts have nothing to say but good things about the wide receiver out of Kirkwood Missouri. He is a 6-4, 185 lb. wide receiver that is ranked as the 11th best player in the state of Missouri, the 53rd best wide receiver nationally, and the 376th best overall player in the 2019 class.
I spoke to him before his visit and he spoke about how excited he was to come down and see the campus. When I asked him about where he had the Illini ranked for securing his services, he said “Top 4”. After a brief question or two I told Maurice that I would contact him after his visit to see if anything changed. After the conclusion of his visit, I asked him about how his visit to Champaign was. He told me that “It was great!” and this was evident by his post on twitter later in the day with him repping the orange and blue. I also asked him about what he thought about the new facilities, and he said “they looked great”.
All in all, it looked like Massey really enjoyed this weekend. He wants to go to a program where he feels wanted and he didn’t feel that way when he originally committed to Iowa State. It has been quite sometime for any commitments to the 2019 football class, and many fans were hoping to see some additional commitments this weekend.
Look for Massey to release a list of top schools in the near future. I don’t expect him to commit too quickly as I see him enjoying his recruiting process to the end, however I think this weekend has put the Illini in an even better position for landing the talented wide receiver.
