Just a little over a week ago, a highly touted 4-Star 2020 defensive tackle prospect, Denver Warren, narrowed his offers down to a top 5 which included Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Penn State.

This was huge news for the Illini staff has they have been recruiting him hard for quite a while now, and it is nice to see their hard work paying off. Denver Warren is ranked as the 5th best player in Illinois, 22nd defensive tackle nationally, and 280th best overall player in the 2020 class. I spoke to him after he came out with his top 5 to see why he chose to keep certain programs in his recruitment.

Aarmani’s Take

Denver Warren is truly a special talent that Head Coach Lovie Smith would be licking his chops if he received his commitment. Defensive Tackle has always been a position that the Illini have been very strong in over the past couple years. Adding another talented recruit to this team will just increase the depth of the position.

I think that Denver Warren’s recruitment will come down to Michigan and Illinois. First of all, both programs have coaches that think through a defensive mindset, so he’ll be a perfect fit at both programs. Second, both universities have very good business programs which I think could really influence his decision. Denver Warren seems to want the best of both world’s and if the Illini program can show some more improvement in the wins department, they should be able to be a finalist for his commitment.
